Track and Field Wraps Up Season With Trips to State

It’s off to state for 11 track and field competitors following first- and second-place finishes at the Metro League championships May 14 and 16 at Aloha High School.

The boys team finished in fourth place with 87.83 points, and the girls were third with 93.5 points.

Senior Tess Michaelson was a double winner in the 400m (57.21) and 800m (2:13.38). She also ran a leg of the second-place 4×400 relay team that included Rubie Cordey, Simone Peters, and Jada Smith. Their combined time was 4:00.93. Cordey will also compete in the long jump, after taking second at Metro with a leap of 16:06 feet. She also ran a leg of the 4x400m relay team. Also competing at state will be Kesiah Clement, who placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 9-06 feet.

The boys posted two Metro champions, with Josiah Langstaff, junior,  winning the 800m in a personal best time of 1:55.31. Senior Trevor Cheadle overcame a shoulder injury to win the pole vault title with a height of 13-08 feet.  Senior Karl Sanft will compete in the shot at state after placing second with a throw of 55-08 feet. The boys 4x400m relay team of Langstaff, Ryan Fujita, Gabe Collins, and Mor’quise Robertson took second place and qualified for state with a time of 3:24.65.

The state meet will be held at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus May 23, 24.
