Cardinals wins first track meet of the season

The track teams won their first meet March 18 at Madison. Both the girls and boys teams scored 99 points, with Madison taking second and Jefferson third.

The meet was somewhat chaotic, however, as Madison still had to work out some kinks in their system. Originally, varsity and JV athletes were placed in the same running heats, however that was remedied before the meet started.

Madison also failed to get its pole vault pit set up before the meet, as neither Jefferson nor Madison have any vaulters. Lincoln vaulters vaulted against themselves.

“It’s really frustrating how the pit wasn’t set up,” said senior varsity vaulter Kesiah Clement. “We had to improvise so we had to tape to bars together. I mean, it worked, which is fine. But it took awhile.”

Problems also arose because Madison did not have enough volunteers to run the meet, so discus was forced to wait until the high jumpers finished, freeing up a volunteer to measure.

“It was just annoying,” said senior varsity thrower Abigail Bidegain. “The meet finished before discus did.”
