Wrestlers qualify for state meet

UPDATE – By Laurel McGrane – Senior Dylan Jones and freshman Trynadii Rocha placed at the state competition Feb. 27, 28 at Memorial Coliseum. Jones was third in the 120-lb. weight class. His finish was the highest for a Lincoln boy in 44 years, according to coach Steve Scoville. Rocha took second in a separate girls’ competition. She was the first female wrestler from Lincoln to qualify for state competition.

Six wrestlers will head to state Feb. 27, 28 at Memorial Coliseum after top performances in their respective weight categories at the PIL district meet Feb. 21.

Dylan Jones (120 lbs.) and Gage Halverson (152 lbs.) claimed individual PIL championships, and silver medals were picked up by Ben Hofmann (145 lbs.) and Sasha Navruzov (285 lbs.).

Trynadii Rocha (106 lbs.) qualified for state after finishing second at the women’s qualifying tournament Feb. 10, and Gio Rivas (152 lbs.) also qualified for state by finishing third in his weight class.
