Varsity boys sit atop PIL standings, girls hold second

Lincoln got back to its winning ways, beating the Grant Generals 58-50 on Jan. 23 in a double-header that saw the varsity girls lose 54-35.

“We controlled the game the whole time,” said sophomore guard, Jonah Pemberton. The Cards were up 31-26 at halftime and maintained the lead for the rest of the game. Lincoln had been on a six-game winning streak before losing to the Cleveland Warriors 66-48 on Jan. 20.

The Cardinals (10-5, 6-1), remain tied with Jefferson for first place in the PIL. Grant was on a three-game winning streak but now drops to 5-11 with the loss to Lincoln. The Cards will face Benson(4-11, 1-6), at Benson on Jan. 30, at 8 p.m.

Despite posting a 20-15 first-half lead, the varsity girls could not survive an 18-point third-quarter scoring assault by the Generals. Senior guard Noheaililani Waiwaiole had 10 points for the Cardinals (10-5, 6-1), who hold on to second place in the PIL standings. Reed Hazard and Reilly Johnson each had seven points. The girls travel to Benson (4-11, 2-5) for a game Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
