The drama classic TV show “Gilmore Girls” is both relatable and compelling in the context of the characters as well as the story arc. The show highlights the life of Rory Gilmore and her mother Lorelai as they deal with their everyday struggles in the town of Stars Hollow.

Rory, the main character, goes through many of the same phases and situations found in high school life, and strives to do well in school to ultimately attend Harvard. While the story of the show doesn’t have the brightest narrative, the variety of characters keeps the tone lighthearted and cheerful.

Whether it’s dealing with boys, or mourning the death of the neighborhood cat, each episode presents itself in a humble and unique manner making it more comfortable to watch unlike other dramas. While the acting can be a bit underwhelming at times, each character has enough substance and different characteristics to keep things interesting.

The show is also littered with multiple pop-culture and classic literature references which help to add depth to each episode. While the main storyline deals with Rory and her mother, other characters such as the quirky cook at her mother’s inn Sookie, get a lot of the screen time as well. These smaller but equally compelling characters provide comedic relief to moments of distress within the Gilmore family.

While it may not be as well written as shows such as “Twin Peaks” or “Freaks and Geeks,” the show presents itself in a modern setting, making it easy to relate to and overall enjoyable to watch. With its quotable characters and an interesting, yet familiar storyline, “Gilmore Girls” holds its own in the plethora of quality TV shows available on Netflix.
